The ideal candidate will share Madera Community College's commitment to educating its racially and socioeconomically diverse student population. We currently enroll over 7,000 students in which 68% identify as Latinx, 1% as Filipino, 8% as Asian, 3% as Black/African American, 18% as White, 1% as American Indian/Alaska Native, and 3% as multiracial. The successful candidate will join a department dedicated to the use of curriculum responsive to the students it serves.

Coordinating and designing Distance Education (DE) on the Madera Community College campus, virtually, and/or at off-site community campus locations, the Coordinator/Instructional Designer will be responsible for:

Developing and maintaining a Student Services component for online education such as student orientation Learning Management System course that includes counseling, matriculation, scheduling software, Financial Aid, Veterans Services, Student Education Plans, and Library Services;
Reviewing, updating, and continuing the development of the Distance Education (DE) Strategic Plan;
Collaborating with district technology management to implement a Distance Education web page with links for students and faculty;
Serving as chair of the Distance Education Committee;
Accounting for current DE courses, DE degrees, and DE certified faculty;
Developing and maintaining a safe test taking environment for online classes including appropriate student authentication and proctoring;
Supporting the college's compliance of Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act of 1973 and the Americans with Disabilities Act of 1990, along with its amendments for digital learning content and information and communication technology in addition to Title 5 regulations and accreditation standards;
Planning and monitoring expenses to ensure fiscal accountability and formulate budget recommendations for instructional use in alignment with district and college resource allocation parameters in collaboration with other college constituency groups; as a result, maintaining an inventory of services/items utilized;
Promoting the assessment of student learning outcomes in order to determine the effectiveness of DE to improve student learning;
Acting as the DE single point of contact for Madera Community College with the State Chancellor's Office;
Reporting activities and progress to College Council, Academic Senate and Department Chair meetings;
Researching and advising the Office of Learning and Student Success on best practices for technology-rich learning experiences and approaches;
Staying updated on Title 5 regulations and distance education and accreditation standards including those provided by ASCCC;
Consulting with faculty to identify, develop, implement, and evaluate areas in which technology can be applied to enhance teaching and learning;
Participating in the evaluation, selection, testing and implementation of hardware and software tools, technologies and services that empower faculty and enhance teaching/learning experiences and student services;
Assisting in the incorporation of multimedia instructional course content materials including images, video, audio and digital library materials using sound instruction design and pedagogical principles;
Attending and/or presenting at appropriate virtual and face-to-face conferences and seminars to maintain a current knowledge of new instructional software, developments in online education and pedagogical techniques;
Participating in program review, student learning outcome development and assessment to improve student learning;
Serving on and participating in department, division, college, and district committees as needed;
Working on assignments in a variety of settings and times, including evening and/or weekends, on-line or off-campus and large group instruction classes as needed; and
Otherwise fulfilling all of the duties and responsibilities of faculty as required by Administrative Regulation 7122.

Minimum Qualifications:
All candidates must have evidence of responsiveness to and understanding of the diverse academic, socioeconomic, cultural, disability, gender identity, sexual orientation, and ethnic backgrounds of community college students, as these factors relate to the need for equity-minded practice within the classroom; AND

A masters in instructional design/technology or educational technology;

OR
A valid California Community College Credential;

OR
The equivalent education and/or experience (requires an equivalency)

Desirable Qualifications:

Experience and skill with addressing issues of equity in the classroom;
Recent experience working with African American, Latinx, Native American, and other racially minoritized students in the classroom and an understanding of how historical patterns of exclusion of these groups in higher education shape patterns of participation and outcomes;
Willingness to examine and remediate ones instructional, relational, and classroom practices to more effectively engage and support racially minoritized students;
Experience working with a diverse student population;
Experience in working with various cultural and socioeconomic backgrounds;
Demonstrated ability to develop and facilitate online teaching certification for instructors;
Demonstrated ability to implement quality improvement-based DE training video series for instructors;
Demonstrated ability to develop effective online introductory video series for students who are new to online education and to the learning management system (LMS);
Demonstrated ability to analyze the instructional quality of face-to-face and online courses to make recommendations to faculty;
Demonstrated ability to develop recommendations and serve as a resource to faculty for improvement and instructional effectiveness in coordination with faculty, departments, divisions, deans, and support services;
Demonstrated ability to evaluate existing online distance education technologies and learning management needs;
Demonstrated ability to create a college-wide dialogue of DE topics and facilitate activities to enhance student success as related to instructional technology and distance education;
Demonstrated ability to create and maintain a distance education/instructional design plan to help faculty transition into an online teaching environment;
Demonstrated ability to oversee the installation of online instructional software;
Working knowledge of a broad range of technology pertaining to data collection and analysis for student success;
Demonstrated ability to work closely with faculty in academic divisions and engage in collegial dialogue on issues of student success;
Demonstrated ability to assist faculty to integrate technology into the classroom and convert traditional face-to-face courses to online;
Demonstrated ability to support the exploration, creation, and conversation of best practices of instructional design and pedagogy;
Demonstrated ability to create customized digital instructional elements and related technology enabled components in various disciplines;
Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively with students and staff;
Related work and professional experience;
Potential for contribution to institutional vitality and growth; and
Knowledge of the community college and its mission and goals.

Conditions of Employment:
177 duty days per year. Duty days will be prorated based on start date.

Salary and Benefits:
Starting salary is $57,750 $86,942 based on education and experience. An annual doctoral stipend of $2,160 is available. Salary and stipends are prorated based on the number of duty days assigned.In addition, the District offers an attractive fringe benefit package including medical, dental, and vision coverage for the employee and dependents, and life insurance. Employees are also members of the California State Teachers Retirement System (CalSTRS).

Selection Procedure:
Applications will be screened by Human Resources for completeness and to determine which applicants meet the minimum qualifications as stated in the job announcement.

From the applicants who meet the minimum qualifications and who have submitted all the required documents by the closing date and time listed on the job announcement, a selection committee will review the candidates who are best qualified based on the minimum and desirable qualifications then determine who will be invited to interview.

The selection committee will rate responses to the interview questions, teaching demonstration, and writing prompt (if applicable). Based on this rating, a small number of applicants will be selected as the ecommended candidates. These candidates will be forwarded to the Vice President and President for final interviews.

A hiring recommendation will be made by the College President and forwarded to the Board of Trustees of State Center Community College District for final approval.

It is located just 20 minutes from the South entrance to Yosemite National Park and just minutes away from the Sierra National Forest. The campus currently serves Oakhurst, Mariposa County, Coarsegold, North Fork and the surrounding communities with over 75 courses in a variety of study areas.
