Job Summary:
The Center for Academic Advising & Retention (CAAR) and the Chicana/o/x Studies Program invites applications for the Director of the College Assistance Migrant Program (CAMP).

The College Assistance Migrant Program is a federally-funded program on a 5-year renewable grant with the goal of assisting migrant and seasonal farm worker students successfully navigate their first year at Eastern Washington University. The Director of CAMP will manage and operationalize all parts of the grant program, insuring that all directives identified by the federal grant are met, in addition to providing direct support to participants of the program and to their families.

The Director will serve as the primary operational contact for internal and external constituents, will coordinate activities with other campus departments, and act as a representative and liaison for the CAMP program, and supervise CAMP staff. This position has responsibility for maintaining the grant's budget, keeping all aspects of the budget in compliance with the parameters of the grant program. This position has primary responsibility for all grant required reporting and associated duties including; data collection and analysis, tracking of objectives, and completing the quarterly and annual reports.

The Director will work with CAMP staff to design, implement, and evaluate services and activities intended to recruit and promote migrant student persistence and retention at the university, and will provide regular reporting as to the effectiveness of those activities. The Director will work with CAMP staff to establish and maintain records for all program participants, abiding by all state and federal record keeping policies.

The Director will regularly collaborate with the Director of the Chicana/o/x Studies Program, who also serves as the Academic Director for CAMP, to offer culturally relevant academic opportunities, and engage students in the broader EWU community.

The Director reports to the Assistant Vice President of Student Success.

Required Qualifications:
  • B.A. in Education or related field
  • Three years experience in program administration with educational or community service programming
  • Experience supervising staff
  • Experience working with and understanding the needs of migrant and seasonal farm worker students
  • Experience managing and monitoring a budget
  • Experience collecting and analyzing data, generating reports based on the data and developing data-informed programming for student success and retention initiatives.
  • Experience using computer technologies including databases, internet, spreadsheets, tracking systems, and word processing.
  • Experience in planning and delivering educational programming
  • Candidate must demonstrate interest, ability and/or experience promoting cultural competency, universal accessibility and/or diversity.


Preferred Qualifications:
  • M.A. in Administration and/ or Education or related field
  • Supervisory experience with federal/state grant programs
  • Spanish and English language proficiency
  • Experience with similar STEM projects and/or CAMP preferred

Responsibility / Duty:
Grant Operations
  • Manage the daily operations of CAMP.
  • Supervise staff: responsible for the hiring, training, supervision, evaluation, and discipline of the Outreach Specialist, Retention Specialist, Program Assistant, and Student Employees.
  • Provide administrative and operational oversight of CAMP and assist staff in achieving CAMP goals, outcomes, and objectives.
  • Manage the grant budget; must understand and apply federal regulations and compliance rules related to expenditures allowed under the grant.
  • Collaborate with migrant-serving organizations.
  • Participate in professional development activities.
  • Develop and maintain strong institutional ties and relationships with community partners.
  • Manage the student intake process, data collection, the evaluation plan. This includes quarterly and yearly dissemination of program data, tracking of objectives, and completing the annual report.
  • Consult with and work with external evaluator.

Responsibility / Duty:
Student Services
  • Directly work with migrant students to provide academic services and support through recruitment, admissions assistance, financial aid application assistance and academic support.
  • Lead the Community & Student Advisory Council and be a liaison to USDEs CAMP Office.
  • Provide one-on-one academic advising to program participants as needed.
  • Direct orientation activities, the Student Leadership Retreat, and other student engagement activities.
  • Develop and maintain CAMP student data bank and tracking system and participate in feedback delivery.
  • Review student progress each quarter and make appropriate contact addressing needs of students. Work collaboratively with academic advisor to make sure program participants are meeting critical success markers.

Conditions of Employment:
This is a 100% administrative exempt position funded under a 5-year grant contract. Continuation of the position is contingent on availability of contract funding.

Required Condition of Employment: Must have transportation, a valid drivers license, and a clean driving record, including no DUI citations.

This position, during the course of university employment will be involved in the receipt of, or accountability for, university funds or other items of value; as well as the unsupervised access with the developmentally disabled, vulnerable adults or children under the age of 16. The offer of employment is contingent upon successful completion and passing of a background check prior to beginning employment.

Salary Information: $58,760 $62,000
