Assistant/Associate/Full Clinical Professor, School of Law

About the Opportunity

The School of Law at Northeastern University seeks applicants for a full-time Clinical Professor and Director of the new LGBTQ+ clinic. The position will commence during the 2026-2027 academic year and is on the law school's clinical professor track, which culminates in long-term, renewable contracts.

The School of Law is a national leader in experiential legal education, with a deep commitment to law in service of the public interest with its varied and numerous clinical offerings. In addition, the School of Law recently received a LGBTQ+ Inclusive Excellence Institutional Award from the Association of American Law Schools (AALS) Section on Sexual Orientation and Gender Identity Issues (SOGII), an honor that recognizes innovative contributions to the inclusion of LGBTQ+ people in the legal academy and the legal profession more broadly.

Consistent with this commitment, and building on this recognition, the School of Law has established the LGBTQ+ Clinic to expand its clinical offerings and to address the legal needs of LGBTQ+ individuals and communities, while providing students with rigorous, practice-based learning opportunities in service of the public interest.

The search committee is especially interested in qualified candidates who can contribute to the excellence of the academic community through their teaching, clinical supervision, and service. We also encourage applicants to share how their background and experience will contribute to Northeastern University School of Law's new LGBTQ+ clinic.

Appointment and academic rank (Assistant, Associate, or Full Clinical Professor) will be commensurate with the candidate's experience and qualifications, consistent with School of Law guidelines governing clinical faculty appointments.

Responsibilities:

The individual appointed to this position will be responsible for the development and operation of the new LGBTQ+ Clinic, including case selection; potential litigation; supervision, teaching, and other forms of advocacy in furtherance of the Clinic's mission and goals; and supervision of clinic students in all aspects of the Clinic's work.

Faculty responsibilities include teaching a related seminar and/or clinical skills courses, advising students, and providing service to the School of Law, the University, and the legal profession, in accordance with the Faculty Handbook.

Qualifications:

Applicants must hold a Juris Doctor (JD) or foreign equivalent from an accredited institution by the employment start date (e.g., JD, LLB).

Applicants must have relevant professional experience providing direct legal services, including experience serving the LGBTQ+ community (e.g., medical legal partnerships, juvenile rights, legislation and regulation, poverty law). Candidates must demonstrate excellence in writing, editing, and supervision, as well as a strong record of, or clear potential for, outstanding teaching.

Any offer of employment is contingent upon the applicant obtaining and maintaining licensure to practice law in the Commonwealth of Massachusetts, which must be secured no later than the end of the first year of employment.
