Associate General Counsel

The Pennsylvania State University's Office of General Counsel seeks to hire an Associate General Counsel who will work primarily in faculty employment matters and other legal issues affecting the academic enterprise. The subject matter areas include faculty hiring, discipline, termination, pay, benefits, tenure, and promotion, as well as academic freedom, civil rights, and other legal and policy issues. The successful candidate will also advise the office that handles administrative agency claims and will manage outside litigation relating to faculty and academic issues. Depending on experience and interest, the successful candidate will also advise on constitutional law issues affecting the University as a whole, including the First Amendment.

Typical Education and Experience Requirements:

This job will be filled at a level 3 or level 4, based on the successful candidate's competencies, education, and experience. Requires a J.D. degree from an ABA-accredited law school plus five years of related experience for a level 3. Additional experience and/or education and competencies are required for a higher level.



Additional Required Competencies:

Applicants must be admitted to the practice of law in the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania or be eligible for prompt admission. The successful candidate must also demonstrate the highest level of integrity and professionalism, possess superior communication skills, have demonstrated the ability to work in a collegial and professional manner with peers and clients, and have a strong interest in working in the Penn State Office of the General Counsel.
